Frequently Asked Questions

The following are examples of some frequent questions we receive on a daily basis regarding your bill.

What can I expect from my Laredo Emergency Room bill if I have insurance?

Laredo Emergency Room has a simple and flexible billing procedure that is similar to a conventional, hospital-based emergency room. The amount that patients pay, including co-pay, deductible, and coinsurance, is largely determined by their health insurance policy.

What if Laredo Emergency Room is not in my insurance network?

By law, patients are reimbursed by their insurance carriers for their ER visits.Texas law further requires insurance carriers to pay for a patient’s emergency care, whether the emergency room is “in-network” or “out-of-network.” The state of Texas empowers patients to use “a prudent layperson standard” in deciding what constitutes an emergency.

What insurances does Laredo Emergency Room accept?

Laredo Emergency Room is not a participating provider with any specific commercial insurance carriers and is considered out-of-network for insurance purposes. Regardless of whether a facility is in-network or out-of-network, however, the State of Texas requires commercial insurance companies to pay for medically necessary services at in-network rates, if you are deemed to have a medical emergency (defined by the“prudent layperson” standard). At this time, we are unable to accept Medicare,Medicaid and Medicaid HMO plans. If you do not have insurance, we will work with you so that you can cover your visit.

I received an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) after my visit to the emergency room. Is that my bill?

An Explanation of Benefits (EOB) is a notification provided to members when a health care benefits claim is processed by your insurance. The EOB shows how the claim was processed by the provider. The EOB is NOT a bill.

What are my payment options if I cannot pay my balance in full?

In situations where a patient is incapable of paying the balance in full, multiple payment options can be used through Laredo Emergency Room’s billing office. For example, a down payment, followed by an arranged payment plan upon discussing with our revenue cycle specialist team, to assist with your entire bill. For more information, please contact our billing department at (956) 290-9316.
