What is headache?

The most common form of pain, headaches all too often keep people from enjoying their lives and being productive in work and school. Most are tension headaches, caused by overly tight muscles in the shoulders, neck, jaw, and scalp. These tension headaches can be the result of stress, depression, lack of sleep, or a poor health routine. Migraines, cluster headaches, and sinus headaches are also common.

The pain from a headache can range from mild to excruciating. The sensation of a headache can vary widely as well, ranging from an ache to a sharp throb or even an electrical sensation – and can occur on one or both sides of the head or radiate across the entire head. Headaches can last for less than an hour or can recur, seeming to continue for weeks or months.
